The Second Stage also opened in 1972. Originally the Concert Hall for the UCSC Music Department, it was their main performance venue until the completion of the Music Center in 1997.

It became a second performance venue for the Theater Arts Department at that point, thus being named The Second Stage.

In 1999, when the Theater Department took possession, there was a custom tension grid installed over the stage at 22.5’. The lighting package was upgraded to one ETC 2.4K Sensor 96 dimmer rack with a dimmer-per-circuit system, a full complement of ETC lighting fixtures, and an ETC Express 250 Console.

In 2008, the ETC Obsession from the Mainstage was reassigned to The Second Stage.

The house seats 215 in front of a traditional proscenium style theater.
