Students majoring in Theater Arts may organize their studies
around a particular area of interest in accordance with the
course requirements outlined below. The Theater Arts major requires
six lower-division courses (including 50, a two-credit course
spanning three quarters), ten upper-division courses, (inclusive of a senior seminar senior comprehensive requirement). One of the courses taken must include one which focuses on the theatre
of diverse groups. A list of courses which satisfy the diversity
requirement is located at the Theater Arts Department
Office.
The following lower division courses
must be taken by all majors:
THEA 50 Fundamentals of Theater Production - three quarters
THEA 61, Issues and Methods
THEA 10, Intro to Design
THEA 20, Intro to Acting
THEA 30, Intro to Dance
One elective from Theater Arts course offerings
The following upper division courses
are required:
Three survey course in the history/theory of performance in the areas of Pre-modern, Non-Western and Western (100 series)
THEA 160 Dramatic Theories
Two studios and one faculty-directed production course
One elective from Theater Arts course offerings
Two critical studies courses chosen from the 161-5 series
THEA 185 Senior Comprehensive Examination
Exceptions to the major requirements, through the Education
Abroad Program or transfer credits, are considered on a case-by-case
basis by the department chair.
