The Name of This Dance Changes Everyday
Choreographed by Cid Pearlman

In collaboration with UCSC dance students, choreographer Cid Pearlman will create an interdisciplinary performance informed by Maggie Nelson’s book-length poem Bluets. Pearlman and dancers will use Nelson’s queer, feminist and multilayered text to create a performance that intertwines philosophy, poetics and memoir in a rigorous and intensely personal aesthetic. Part performance, part installation, audience will enter into a theater populated by micro-worlds each with its own movement language. Music for Bluets #1-40 is composed by UCSC alumnus Jonathan Segel (violinist for Camper Van Beethoven), scenic design is by Theater Arts Faculty Kate Edmunds, poet Denise Leto acts as dramaturge. Also on the program is small variations, performed by Pearlman’s dance company. Nominated for LA’s Horton Award in 2006, small variations features original music by composer/cellist Joan Jeanrenaud, formerly of Kronos Quartet.
