Winter
by Sebastian Lon Timpe
Directed by Joseph Neves

Winner of the Dharma-Grace Foundation Creative Writing award.

A student written and directed production of an original queer tragedy.

Winter challenges audiences to be aware of their actions and the effects they have on others. Bucky is on a downward spiral trying to pull himself back up. Brad has to deal with questions about the future. Andrew and Zane grow together but find friction in an inability to speak for themselves. D is trying to learn from his past mistakes while Harper struggles with being there for her drug addicted girlfriend. Follow this group of friends, enemies, and lovers as they enter adulthood amidst the opioid epidemic. The stigmatization of drug users and lack of action by our government in addressing the widespread problem creates an interesting parallel between the opioid and AIDS epidemics. The heroin epidemic effects every community and does not discriminate based on race, religion, location, or class—similar to sexuality. The play illustrates that this epidemic is affecting all of us and that we will only tackle it by addressing the choices that turn people into victims of it. We must all learn to choose to love each other more.
